Location

Belmont, Michigan is a small town located in Kent County. It is situated about 15 miles northeast of Grand Rapids, the second-largest city in Michigan. The town is bordered by the Rogue River to the north and the Grand River to the south.

Belmont is easily accessible via US-131, which runs through the western part of the town. The Gerald R. Ford International Airport is located about 20 miles south of Belmont.

History

Belmont was first settled in the early 1830s by a group of New Englanders. The town was named after the Belmont Plateau, a famous horse racing track in Philadelphia. In the late 1800s, Belmont became a popular summer resort destination for wealthy Grand Rapids residents.

During the 20th century, Belmont became a thriving manufacturing town, with several factories producing furniture, paper products, and other goods. Today, Belmont is a quiet residential community with a population of around 10,000 people.

Attractions

Despite its small size, Belmont has several attractions that draw visitors from around the region. One of the most popular is the Rogue River Park, which offers hiking trails, fishing spots, and picnic areas along the scenic Rogue River.

Another popular attraction is the Boulder Ridge Wild Animal Park, which features over 80 species of animals from around the world. Visitors can take a safari-style tour of the park and see animals such as lions, tigers, and bears up close.

For history buffs, the Belmont Historical Society Museum offers a glimpse into the town’s past. The museum features exhibits on local history, including the town’s early settlers, its manufacturing heyday, and its role in World War II.
